Selene Church Memorial Scholarship
Margaret Moody was the daughter of one of the early Mayors of Redondo Beach, Charles Wortham. As a life-long resident of Redondo Beach, and graduate of Redondo Union High School, Margaret was pleased to establish a Memorial Scholarship in the name of her granddaughter, Selene Castillo Church, whose life was tragically cut short on Memorial Day Weekend of her Senior Year at Redondo Union in 1987.
Selene was born in 1969 and was one of 12 children. On most days, she could often be found taking care of the little ones in her family. At school, her friendships transcended all boundaries. She worked hard for good grades and she was recognized for her perfect attendance. She loved going to the beach and playing volleyball and swimming. And she jumped at the chance to participate in team sports such as soccer.
Selene’s Grandmother, Margaret Moody, wanted to support future graduates from Redondo Union High School in honor of Selene.
