Sandpiper of the Year

soy@sandpipers.org

After moving to Manhattan Beach from the East coast, I resolved to embrace my new hometown by becoming involved, preferably by volunteering in a philanthropic way. I was fortunate to have discovered and joined Sandpipers in 2009. Sandpipers is especially appealing for the considerable number and variety of individuals and causes benefiting our surrounding community from survivors of domestic abuse to seniors yearning for companionship. I’ve served with dedication in many leadership roles and eventually on the board of directors and as president. If I had to choose, I would say I particularly enjoy our scholarship program, Holiday Baskets, and Back to School Shopping, which have most positively affected me. Witnessing the joy and deep appreciation from those benefiting from these special programs has made me more mindful, grateful and compassionate. I’ve also been blessed with friendships which have enriched my life and becoming my family and what I now call “home.” Today, I am honored to serve as Sandpiper of the Year proudly representing our Associates who have volunteered for many years and continue to support the mission of Sandpipers.
