Sandpipers Scholarship Program

Sandpipers has been providing financial assistance to college-bound students since 1941; the oldest continuing aid program in the South Bay.  Starting with just one student, the program has grown to support up to 40 students each year. The Scholarship Program is also unique in that we provide funding to qualifying students for up to four continuous years of undergraduate studies.  In recent years, we have achieved an astounding graduation rate of 98%, suggesting that scholarship money is well invested.

High school seniors living in the South Bay (both citizens and eligible non-citizens as defined by the US Department of Education) are eligible to apply for a Sandpipers Scholarship.  Applications are made available at local high schools and on Sandpipers website in January and are due in mid-February. Note: children and grandchildren of Sandpipers members are not eligible.

Upon receiving applications, the Scholarship Committee conducts a rigorous review, first by screening the applications, then conducting personal interviews before determining the candidates that are the most impressive and deserving of a Sandpipers Scholarship.  Our selection is based on the student’s financial need, community and school involvement, academic achievement, leadership, and their commitment to financially contribute personally towards their education.

In 2007, Sandpipers awarded over $110,000 to 12 freshmen and 25 upper classmen.  Pictured below are our newest honorees, each of who was introduced to our membership at our Annual Scholarship Recognition event in May at American Martyr’s O’Donnell Hall.
